Manager of Grants and Partnerships

Bennington College seeks a dynamic, creative Manager of Grants and Partnerships to develop written proposals to institutional donors (foundations, corporations, and government agencies) as well as mission-aligned partners (operating foundations, cultural and educational institutions) to secure grant support for for existing programs, to launch new initiatives, and to help the College achieve its ambitious 10-year goals. 

The Manager of Grants and Partnerships must be a thoughtful and persuasive writer and communicator and be curious and entrepreneurial in their approach to grants research and proposal development. The Manager will partner with academic, administrative, and advancement colleagues to seek funds from private grant making organizations in support of the Bennington's near and long-term strategic priorities. The Manager will also play a primary role in establishing and maintaining new partnerships and managing existing relationships with operating and charitable foundations. 

This position has a dual reporting relationship to the Senior Vice President for Strategic Partnerships in the President’s Office and the Provost and Dean of the College. The individual will also maintain a close affiliation with colleagues in Institutional Advancement to ensure that grants and partnership work is integrated with the College’s overall fundraising strategy.

  • A commitment to the pioneering pedagogy and liberal arts mission of Bennington College
  • An entrepreneurial, inquisitive instinct, a desire to make connections, and a diplomatic temperament
  • Superior writing skills and demonstrated ability to craft proposals, reports, and accompanying financial materials. Strong ability to make compelling arguments and convey complex concepts clearly
  • Ability to write persuasively and fluently in a wide range of areas, including the arts, humanities and social sciences and sciences
  • Donor research skills including familiarity with Foundation Search and/or other prospecting tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, balance multiple tasks, work under deadlines and with keen attention to detail, and prioritize workload
  • Experience working effectively with teams (within a department, cross departmentally, and with external partners) and an ability to harness team creativity and translate into effective fundraising
  • BA degree and five or more years’ of experience non-profit fundraising, preferably in grant-seeking and/or grant-writing required.  Experience in budget development preferred
  • Advanced technical skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; Google suite; experience with CRM systems, ideally Raiser’s Edge
