Campus Safety Field Supervisor

The Field Supervisor will supervise Campus Safety Officers and serve as team lead for other Campus Safety staff on duty, ensuring the safety and security of property and people as well as adherence to College and Department policies and procedures. In addition, you will respond to and addresses safety and security-related concerns including responding to college emergencies.

Bennington’s Campus Safety approach is one of harm and risk-reduction, and is focused on finding the learning moments possible in any given interaction and honoring student growth and development.  This approach is applied to all aspects of student engagement including all policy enforcement and general service requests. Of critical importance is the ability to collaboratively work with a diverse population to ensure equity and inclusivity for all campus community members.

Additional responsibilities include

  • Protect College property from crime, fire, vandalism and accidents.  Perform safety patrols in vehicle and on foot. Secure buildings and property. Enforce safety, traffic, and parking regulations.
  • Protect and provide assistance to students, faculty, staff and visitors/guests.  
  • Maintain evidence log and storage of evidence.
  • Report problems observed or informed of to the appropriate department.
  • Provide timely response to service calls including, but not limited to, transportation or escort assistance, security service calls, and vehicle assistance.  
  • Investigate incidents and draft report of findings.  
  • As needed, act as a First Responder during emergencies and serve as the liaison between the College and outside agencies such as law enforcement, fire, or EMS.  
  • Complete and/or delegate various administrative tasks including, but not limited to, monthly fire extinguisher inspections, vehicle and bike registration, scheduling and execution of residential fire drills, reporting and storage of lost and missing items.

This position works Monday through Friday from 7pm to 3am. 


High school graduate or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree, campus safety and/or law enforcement experience preferred. Minimum of two years of supervisory experience required. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a background/DMV check are required. Candidates should have the ability to possess or be willing to train for CPR, First Aid and AED certification. Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Windows-based applications required and ability to adapt to and use changing technology. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness. Excellent organizational skills, the ability to set priorities and multi-task in a fast-paced setting, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to negotiate and resolve conflict are necessary. Must be able to remain calm during stressful situations and accept sensitive or confidential information appropriately. Attention to detail and be the ability to work independently with limited supervision are required.    

Working conditions and physical demands

The Field Supervisor works both inside and outdoors and may be exposed to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and unpredictable situations.  Work requires standing, bending, reaching, stooping, climbing stairs, walking, and driving. Work may involve strenuous physical activity/contact.  Occasional long shifts required.
