Technical Instructor in Ceramics

Bennington College seeks a Technical Instructor in Ceramics to work closely with ceramics faculty and students, manage the ceramics studio and provide technical support and instruction to students. The technical instructor is responsible for overall studio management as directed by the ceramics faculty. Specific responsibilities include repairs and maintenance of equipment, inventory management and ordering materials, troubleshooting student problems, firing student work, instructing faculty/students on equipment use and best practices with regard to health and studio safety, and responding to faculty requests to meet the needs of their courses. The position also requires managing studio monitors as well as being a liaison with other visual arts technical staff members and the maintenance department of  the College for overall maintenance of infrastructure in the ceramic studio.

Extensive knowledge and experience working with kilns, clay, and glaze materials, and the capacity to use power tools is required. Experience in ceramics related teaching and 3D digital fabrication is highly desirable. Master of Fine Arts Degree in ceramics is preferred. In addition, strong communication and interpersonal skills are required and previous work with a diverse body of creative faculty and students is highly preferred. This is a full-time position during the academic terms, with benefits. Studio space is available for the artist/technician to pursue professional work.
