Assistant to the Chief Communications Officer

Bennington College seeks a highly organized Assistant to join a busy and growing Communications team. The ideal candidate will be meticulously organized and incredibly nimble - able to successfully guide people and projects in a fast-paced, small team environment. The Assistant to the Chief Communications Officer must be an effective communicator, an adept and tactical scheduler, and an agile multi-tasker. The Communications Office is responsible for telling Bennington College's story, across media and across platforms, so that the power of a Bennington education has the broadest possible reach. The Office oversees all aspects of branding and marketing, media relations, internal communications, and leadership communications.  

The Assistant to the Chief Communications Officer provides high-level, independent, administrative support to the CCO. The Assistant also ensures the effective operation of and serves as the first point of contact for the Communications Office - managing inquiries  and projects from a variety of constituencies and sources, including the public. A critical aspect of this work is the ability to assess, prioritize, and direct multiple inquiries simultaneously.  This work requires adept time management, organization, and attention to detail. The Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day administrative functions of the office including managing calendars, drafting/editing correspondence and provides support in the planning and coordination of communications projects and events.  The assistant works closely with the entire Communications Office team, and in partnership with departments across all areas of campus.  

Candidates must have a keen and broad interest in communications work and an affinity for a liberal arts education.  Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, relevant administrative experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment; preference for candidates who have previous experience working in communications or higher education. Candidates must have demonstrated experience managing multiple and competing work priorities.  The position requires strong organization skills - an ability to use technology effectively to organize work - and high attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and leadership skills.  Candidates must possess advanced computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Gmail, Google Docs, basic HTML).  The position requires the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with diplomacy and care.
