Bennington College seeks an engaging and highly organized professional to provide administrative support to the Office of Human Resources within a vibrant and growing campus community. The human resources assistant serves as the primary point of contact for inquiries to the office, and therefore must possess the ability to exercise good judgement in a variety of situations and with a broad range of individuals. The ideal candidate will be meticulously organized and incredibly nimble - able to successfully guide people and projects in a fast-paced, small team environment. The assistant must be an effective communicator, an adept and tactical scheduler, and an agile multi-tasker.  The position demands the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, prioritize competing work and deadlines and produce highly accurate work.  

The human resources assistant provides general administrative support for all program initiatives within the department, provides direct administrative support to the director of human resources and also supports the work of the Human Resources staff.  The human resources assistant performs a wide range of administrative functions - managing calendars, organizing meetings/events/interviews, handling calls/inquiries, drafting/editing correspondence, assists with recruitment efforts, manages onboarding for new hires, budgeting, and interfacing with a host of internal and external constituents including employees and applicants.  The assistant is responsible for maintaining/updating staff personnel files and HRIS, as well as processing employee changes to payroll in a timely and accurate manner.  The assistant helps to coordinate social programming for staff events and also coordinates with staff in other offices of the College on a range of projects and initiatives.  Of critical importance in this role is the ability to anticipate the needs of the office and maintain a pulse on pending work ensuring timely and appropriate attention and follow-up. The capacity for clear, thoughtful communication and an eagle eye for detail are crucial.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, relevant administrative experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment; preference for candidates who have previous experience working in human resources.  Candidates must be creative problem-solvers and possess strong communication skills - demonstrating an ability to build relationships and develop partnerships with a host of individuals.  The position requires exemplary organizational skills, remarkable attention to detail and strong technology orientation/proficiency using Gmail, Google Drive, MS Office; HRIS (ADP Workforce Now and eTIME) experience preferred.
