Provost and Dean's Office Assistant

Bennington, Vermont, United States Full-time

Bennington College seeks a highly engaged professional to provide operational and administrative support to the Office of the Provost and Dean.  Using a team-oriented approach, this individual will report to and partner with the executive assistant to the provost/dean and faculty affairs coordinator to support the Provost and the associate deans of faculty affairs and advising.

Serving as a key point of contact for the office, the assistant engages and works closely with a range of individuals from within and outside of the College to coordinate projects and initiatives on behalf of the Office of the Provost and Dean. Thus candidates must be comfortable and adept serving as an ambassador on behalf of the Office and must have experience working and building relationships with a variety of people and personalities.

The assistant will perform a wide range of administrative functions -- handling calls/inquiries, interfacing with faculty and staff, drafting and editing correspondence -- and will also assist with coordinating faculty searches, discipline and program reviews, the onboarding of new and visiting faculty, and faculty programming. Of critical importance is the ability to anticipate the needs of those within the Office to effectively support all aspects of their work.  Candidates must be effective communicators, adept and tactical schedulers, and agile multi-taskers; the ability to handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion, diplomacy and tact is, of course, critical to this work. Candidates must be able to flex to meet changing priorities and competing work/deadlines - while producing high quality and highly accurate work. The capacity for drafting/editing effective written communication pieces and remarkable attention to detail are crucial. The positions require the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations as well as the ability to work with good humor and grace under pressure and tight deadlines.

Qualifications include relevant administrative experience, with demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.  Candidates must be exceptionally organized and adept at using technology to promote efficiencies -- this is essential to fostering the team-oriented approach to the work -- and to ensuring a fluid sharing/coordination of responsibilities. Candidates must also be creative problem-solvers and possess a strong technology orientation using MS Office and Google Suite.
