Bennington College, a liberal arts college distinguished for its pioneering initiatives in higher education, seeks an energetic and knowledgeable Career Advisor to join a dynamic team of professionals committed to the value of experiential learning as an opportunity for expression, academic and professional growth, and an avenue for making a difference.

The Career Advisor will be primarily focused on student/alumni engagement through one-on-one advising sessions, student programming, and event coordination. You will coach students to evaluate their skills, interests and goals, identify resources, clarify and follow through on job search actions. Expertise in professional development support is a must, including: career coaching; editing resumes and cover letters; helping students build a digital portfolio and online professional profile; and providing training in interviewing, networking, and salary negotiating skills. In addition, work collaboratively with the Alumni Relations Office to help develop and maintain an alumni (and parent) mentor program and provide a channel for current students and alumni to connect regarding career advice.

Qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and a minimum of 3 years' experience in career development, student/academic advising, education, human resources, human services or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with the challenges faced by liberal arts students and young alumni throughout the career development process as well as techniques to assist them.
  • Ability to stay current on trends in job search protocols, recruitment, and career-development best practices and resources
  • A team player - someone who is willing and nimble - able to jump in when needed and work collaboratively with others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and advising skills as well as strong technological skills; familiarity with Google and Microsoft Office Suites; career services database experience a plus.
  • Professional communication skills are essential; able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to leverage technology to maintain a vibrant, interactive, and meaningful social media presence.
  • Career development experience, knowledge of a variety of career paths, and advising experience is preferred.
