Working as part of the Buildings & Grounds team, the housekeeper is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of administrative buildings, academic/campus facilities and residential buildings/locations. Housekeepers are regularly assigned to a particular area however may assist with other areas as needed. The position works with all campus offices as well as the College staff, faculty, students, and visitors.

Regular schedule:  Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm

Hourly rate of pay: $15.16

General Responsibilities

    • Empty trash and recycling.
    • Clean and disinfect bathroom surfaces and floors and restock supplies. Wipe down kitchen surfaces. 
    • Sweep, vacuum, and/or wet mop floors and rugs or operate floor-cleaning machine as needed.
    • Wash and change linens and clean rooms in various outside houses, as scheduled.  Maintain appropriate inventory of linen, lamps, and blankets.   
    • Clean water fountains and water coolers.
    • Clean accessible windows and door/foyer glass; spot cleaning daily as needed. Scrub walls and stairs.

Qualifications

  1. High School graduate and/or GED equivalent required.  Minimum one year of experience in professional cleaning required.  Ability to operate a vacuum, buffer, floor machine, wet/dry vacuum, washing machine and similar equipment required for housekeeping/cleaning tasks.  
  2. Current/valid driver’s license
  3. Exceptional customer service skills; demonstrated experience interacting and developing relationships with internal customers.  
  4. Demonstrated ability to multi-task, respond to requests with a sense of urgency, and complete work orders in a timely manner.  
  5. Language Skills: Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions, procedures, correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write correspondence.  Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate.
  6. Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure and inventory, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to solve problems.  
  7. Reasoning Ability: Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems; considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and discussing ideas with supervisor.  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  
  8. This position requires successful completion and acceptable results of a background check.

Physical, Mental and Visual Effort

This position primarily works within regular office buildings, academic/campus facilities, residential houses and the general maintenance plant building.  This position requires routine medium to heavy physical exertion and the ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs; typically involves lifting, standing, bending, reaching, stooping, walking, pushing, pulling and climbing stairs to coordinate work.  Must be able to walk and climb stairs frequently as well as carry supplies/deliveries/equipment up and down stairs.  This position may require some overtime as well as weekend and holiday coverage.
