Bennington, Vermont, United States | Full-time

Apply

Bennington College seeks an organized and empathetic administrative assistant to support student health and psychological services. These operations are part of the Student Health Center, a program that provides services to over 700 students. The Center strives to support the health and wellbeing of the students while promoting active participation of students in matters that affect their own psychological and physical health.

Grounded in a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, the Assistant serves as a welcoming ambassador to all students seeking services. The Assistant serves as the primary point of contact for the Center and is responsible for creating a warm and engaging patient experience. In addition to providing general administrative support to the Directors of Psychological Services and Health Services, the Assistant supports the work of all staff within these offices to ensure fluid coordination of duties and operations. The Assistant handles a range of administrative tasks including: reception (meet/greet patients), triaging/directing inquiries, scheduling appointments, calendar management, organizing meetings, preparing the directors for the daily schedule, organizing/maintaining patient charts/files and handling insurance claims. During non-term times, the position will provide administrative support to other areas of the College.

Bennington serves a diverse student population inclusive of members of ethnically/racially minoritized, international, LGBTQIA+, and disability communities as well as diverse gender identities, socioeconomic backgrounds, religions, and political beliefs. Our staff and faculty also reflect diverse and intersecting backgrounds and identities. All employees are expected to be respectful and responsive to these differences in the service of building a community that promotes student and employee success. Each individual (faculty, staff and students) will be accountable for upholding these values.  The College’s approach to pluralism and inclusivity—both as fields of inquiry and practice—is to prioritize flexible thought, and to invite the examination of access, value, power, and privilege through its institutional policies and areas of study. We encourage applicants from diverse realms of interest, backgrounds, experience, and accomplishment to apply.

The ideal candidate will be meticulously organized and incredibly nimble - able to successfully guide people and projects in a fast-paced, small team environment. The assistant must be an effective communicator, an adept and tactical scheduler, and an agile multi-tasker. The work is best suited for someone who thrives on follow-up and follow-through - a resourceful, calm-under-pressure, natural listmaker; an individual who is always thinking about how work/projects intersect (and who makes those connections!) and who thoughtfully considers how to leverage technology effectively so that we can do our best work. The position requires the ability to prioritize competing work and deadlines while producing accurate work and an ability to handle sensitive and confidential health information with discretion.

The position requires demonstrated 1-3 years’ administrative experience working in a fast-paced, healthcare environment; bachelor’s degree preferred. Candidates must have experience working with diverse populations and evidence a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Additionally, candidates must be creative problem-solvers and possess excellent communication skills - able to build relationships and develop partnerships across all areas and levels of the College. The position requires exemplary organizational skills, remarkable attention to detail and a strong technology orientation/proficiency using Gmail, Google Drive, Word/Excel. Knowledge of insurance billing, HIPAA and related health regulations preferred. The position requires successful completion and acceptable results of a background check.
